Michael Hill

Born and raised in Plymouth, Michael studied Graphic Art and Design at Plymouth College of Art, where his passion for drawing and painting first developed. After graduating, he worked as a freelance illustrator before focusing fully on his own painting practice. Michael is best known for his expressive watercolours and mixed-media works that capture the coastal landscapes and scenes of the West Country, especially around Plymouth and its surrounding areas. His paintings often convey mood and atmosphere through a sensitive handling of colour and form, suggesting a strong sense of place without overly defining every detail. He loves to create abstract pieces too and we’re so chuffed that he has created a collection for us! An active member of the local art community, Michael serves as President of the Plymouth Watercolour Society and is a member of the Plymouth Society of Artists. He also teaches watercolour painting and leads workshops for art societies throughout the region. His work has been exhibited widely in galleries across the UK, especially London, and his pieces are held in private collections across the world
